Welcome from the Vice President for Research

CWRU researchers are among the most distinguished in the world. We have 16 Nobel Laureates among current and former faculty and alumni, 4 members of the National Academies of Sciences, 7 members of the National Academy of Engineering, and 8 members of the Institute of Medicine. We also partner with artistic and cultural institutions on a broad range of projects that make important scholarly contributions in the humanities and social sciences.

Extraordinary research requires an outstanding infrastructure. Our Office of Research & Technology Management provides support to seek out grant funding, to facilitate industrial sponsorship, and to transfer university technologies to the marketplace. This is a place for people driven to make a difference, and our office exists to help them succeed.

Contact us. We want you to see what our campus can offer.

Dr. Suzanne Rivera

Food & Drug Administration - Smokeless Tobacco Reference Products

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to develop a smokeless tobacco reference products program. The selected organization(s) will develop smokeless tobacco reference products representing at minimum two categories of commercially available smokeless tobacco product types to be used for investigational non-clinical purposes by tobacco manufacturers, contract and government laboratories, and academic institutions. The FDA will prioritize the product types. Development of this program will require significant collaboration and research efforts with outside organizations.

Application Deadline: July 31, 2015

FOIA Requests

CWRU researchers who receive requests for information that invoke the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) should contact the Office of General Counsel. This should be done immediately so the extremely short deadlines under FOIA can be met. General Counsel can work with the faculty member to take steps to protect proprietary or confidential information from grants and protocols prior to the release of the requested information. Individual researchers should not release information without first consulting with the CWRU Office of General Counsel.

For more information, contact the Office of General Counsel at: http://www.case.edu/president/counsel/contactus.html.

Take Advantage of All Pivot Has to Offer

For years, Community of Science (COS) has been recognized around the world for its funding from a wide variety of sources as well as its access to the world’s research community.

CWRU has subscribed to COS's new product, Pivot, which provides you the edge by bringing together the right research opportunities, funding, and people—quickly and easily. It provides global and local connections that strengthen research by exploring new avenues for funding and collaboration—for faculty, staff researchers, and graduate students.

Pivot can:

  • provide access to the most comprehensive global source of funding opportunities;
  • identify research expertise from within or outside of CWRU;
  • foster collaboration by cultivating essential partnerships and alliances; and
  • build strong network connections for future opportunities.
Learn more about how to use all the features Pivot has to offer.

Limited Submission Reminder: Hartwell Foundation - Individual Biomedical Research Awards

Key Deadline: June 30, 2015 (CWRU internal application); September 15, 2015 (Sponsor's submission deadline).

Because Case Western Reserve University earned an at-large bid in The Hartwell Foundation's Individual Biomedical Research Awards program, CWRU is eligible to nominate two faculty members for proposal submission this year. Since 2011, five CWRU faculty members have been selected for Hartwell awards.

The foundation funds 12 Hartwell Investigators annually for their innovative, early-stage, cutting-edge biomedical research that has the potential to benefit children in the USA. These awards provide funding to individual researchers in the U.S. for three years, at $100,000 direct cost per year.

Number of Applications Allowed: Two faculty members.

For more information on this limited submission opportunity, visit the Office of Research Administration website.

Department of Health and Human Services – Food & Drug Administration

The goal of this program is to support the advancement of regulatory science that can facilitate the implementation and the assessment of emerging manufacturing technology in the pharmaceutical sector. Emerging manufacturing technology can be viewed as a technology that has the potential to modernize the pharmaceutical manufacturing body of knowledge to support more robust, predictable, and/or cost-effective processes and with which the FDA has limited review or inspection experiences, due to its relative novelty. Examples of such elements include innovative or novel (1) product manufacturing technology, such as the dosage form; (2) manufacturing process (e.g., design, scale-up, and/or commercial scale); and/or (3) testing technology.

Application Deadline: June 30 , 2015
