Welcome from the Vice President for Research

CWRU researchers are among the most distinguished in the world. We have 16 Nobel Laureates among current and former faculty and alumni, 4 members of the National Academies of Sciences, 7 members of the National Academy of Engineering, and 8 members of the Institute of Medicine. We also partner with artistic and cultural institutions on a broad range of projects that make important scholarly contributions in the humanities and social sciences.

Extraordinary research requires an outstanding infrastructure. Our Office of Research & Technology Management provides support to seek out grant funding, to facilitate industrial sponsorship, and to transfer university technologies to the marketplace. This is a place for people driven to make a difference, and our office exists to help them succeed.

Contact us. We want you to see what our campus can offer.

CWRU's Core Facilities site is live

CWRU's Core Facilities Support Committee is working to promote all of the university's diverse core facilities and service centers in an attempt to improve their visibility and promote collaboration with researchers and industry partners.

The committee is pleased to announce that their website http://research.case.edu/corefacilities is now available and users can find information about the most common core facilities in one place. Intended to work alongside the already available webpage for CWRU's Centers and Institutes http://www.case.edu/centers , the site strives to promote the amazing facilities our university offers.

If you would like more information, have a comment or have a core facility that you feel we have missed, please feel free to email the committee at CWRUcores@case.edu.

NEW Limited Submission: Greenwall Foundation: Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics

Key Deadlines: September 11, 2015, 5:00pm (CWRU Letter of Intent), October 9, 2015, 12:00pm EST (external Letter of Intent).

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. Each year about three Greenwall Faculty Scholars are selected to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to develop their research program.

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics supports research that goes beyond current work in bioethics to help resolve pressing ethical issues in clinical care, biomedical research, and public policy.

Scholars and Alumni/ae attend twice-yearly meetings, where they present their work in progress, receive feedback and mentoring from the Faculty Scholars Program Committee and other Scholars, and have the opportunity to develop collaborations with other researchers. The ongoing involvement of Alumni/ae with the Program provides them ongoing opportunities for professional development and feedback and engages them in mentoring of younger Scholars.

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program creates a community that enhances future bioethics research by Scholars and Alumni/ae.

The Faculty Scholars Program Committee provides oversight and direction for the program, and is involved with selection of the Scholars but with mentoring and faculty development activities.

Up to two applicants from a university will be considered in each application cycle. Institutions are requested to have an internal screening and selection process. No more than one award per institution will be made in each Faculty Scholars grant cycle. The unit of award will be the overseeing university, thus if a university with a law school, medical school, several teaching hospitals, and a faculty of arts and sciences, nominates two applicants in a cycle, only one may be chosen.

For more information on this limited submission opportunity, visit the Office of Research Administration website.

New Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Rate for Use in Proposals

Negotiations with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regarding the University’s F&A rates have concluded. DHHS has approved a (3) three year F&A rate of 58.5% for CWRU, which is a 1.5 percentage point change from our previous rate of 57%. This rate will be effective through June 2016.

The new F&A rate should be used when preparing proposal budgets for awards with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2013 or after.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites bioengineering and biomedical scientists to collaborate in developing non- or minimally-invasive methods for measuring biochemical substances in connection with the care of perinatal patient populations. Lab-on-a-chip methods for rapid diagnostic or prognostic purposes are also encouraged.

FOIA Requests

CWRU researchers who receive requests for information that invoke the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) should contact the Office of General Counsel. This should be done immediately so the extremely short deadlines under FOIA can be met. General Counsel can work with the faculty member to take steps to protect proprietary or confidential information from grants and protocols prior to the release of the requested information. Individual researchers should not release information without first consulting with the CWRU Office of General Counsel.

For more information, contact the Office of General Counsel at: http://www.case.edu/president/counsel/contactus.html.
