U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) Broad Agency Announcement - BAA -15-1
Apply early. Funding is limited and subject to availability.
The BAA is continuously open, and accepts proposals on a rolling basis. Pre-proposals may be submitted and will be evaluated at any time throughout the year.
Scope: The USAMRMC's mission is to provide solutions to medical problems of importance to the American warfighter. Projects must pertain to at least one of the research areas of interest outlined in the BAA.
Funding: Budgets are not capped and must reflect the scope of the work. Funding can be requested for up to 5 years.

Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI): Case School of Medicine's OSI can work with you to make sure that you meet the current goals and objectives of the USAMRMC that is paramount for your success. OSI can assist you in preparing a competitive proposal and can help guide your efforts from the first draft of the pre-proposal to submission of the full application.
Timeline: Invitation to submit a Full proposal will be given within 90 days of submission of the pre-proposal. An additional 90 days is provided to the applicant to complete the full application. Allow for at least 6 months between submission of the whitepaper to submission of the full application.

National Center for Accelerated Innovations (NCAI)
The Office of Translation and Innovation will host an information session on the National Center for Accelerated Innovations (NCAI) program, including details on the current RFA, led by Mark Low, Managing Director for the NCAI-Cleveland Clinic and Mark Chance, Vice Dean for Research in the CWRU School of Medicine.
The information session will be held next Monday, January 26 from 12n - 1pm in BRB 932.
All interested investigators are encouraged to attend. If you are coming from outside the School of Medicine, please stop by the security desk on the ground floor of the Biomedical Research Building and they will give you access to the elevators.
Drs. Low and Chance, among others, will be on hand to help answer any questions you have about this innovations program. The NCAI is currently running it's third funding cycle RFA. This regional funding opportunity is a great chance to move your translational research project to the next level.

Shipping Abroad in Compliance with Export Regulations
The federal export control laws can apply when regulated items are being shipped abroad. Before shipping a device, materials, or other items abroad, CWRU personnel should contact either the Environmental Health and Safety Office or the Compliance Office so that an employee trained in export compliance can determine whether an export license is needed prior to making the shipment.
These are the steps that all CWRU researchers should follow when planning to make an outgoing international shipment of items or materials:

- The CWRU Principal Investigator works with the CWRU Technology Transfer Office (“TTO”) to determine whether a Material Transfer Agreement (“MTA”) is needed prior to the shipment. The CWRU PI initiates this by submitting a completed MTA Review Form found at https://research.case.edu/forms.cfm#tech_mgt.
- If the Technology Transfer Office determines that an MTA is needed between CWRU and the overseas organization to receive the items or materials, the Principal Investigator and TTO work together to put it in place. Once the MTA is completed and signed by CWRU and the recipient organization, the Technology Transfer Office will forward a copy of the final contract to the PI. The PI should keep a copy of the final MTA for easy reference. Note that MTAs not only help to ensure compliance with the federal export laws, but they also protect investigators’ intellectual property rights.
- Before making the shipment overseas, the PI should contact the CWRU Environmental Health and Safety Office. This step is necessary so that the Environmental Health and Safety Office can analyze the contents of the shipment in light of the export regulations and determine whether the shipment can proceed immediately, or whether federal pre-authorization is needed. If the Technology Transfer Office determined that an MTA was needed, then the PI should provide Environmental Health and Safety with a copy of the signed MTA so that it can match the requested shipment with the formal contract.

The Brocher Foundation, located on the shores of the Geneva Lake, in Hermance (Geneva-Switzerland), is calling for proposals for the 2016 residencies. The residencies last between one and four months. They give researchers the opportunity to work at the Brocher Centre on projects on the ethical, legal and social implications for humankind of recent medical research and new technologies. Every month a dozen of visiting researchers live and concentrate on their research project at the Foundation.
The Brocher Foundation offers to successful applicants a workplace and an accommodation in its premises. Breakfast and dinner are also provided every day. “Junior” visiting researchers can apply for an additional scholarship in order to cover their travel and local expenses in Geneva. To be eligible to this “Additional scholarship for Junior researchers”, the applicant should be a PhD student or should have obtained his PhD degree within a maximum of five years and should not perceive any other income during the time spent at the Foundation.

Limited Submission Reminder: NSF Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR)
Key Deadlines: March 23, 2015, 5:00pm (CWRU Internal Submission Deadline), July 13, 2015, 5:00pm EST.
The Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR) Program provides funds: 1) for improvements to secure, improve, and organize collections that are significant to the NSF BIO-funded research community; 2) to secure collections-related data for sustained, accurate, and efficient accessibility of the collection to the biological research community; and 3) to transfer collection ownership responsibilities.
The CSBR program provides for enhancements that secure and improve existing collections, result in accessible digitized specimen-related data, and develop better methods for specimen curation and collection management. Requests should demonstrate a clear and urgent need to secure the collection, and the proposed activities should address that need. Biological collections supported include established living stock/culture collections, vouchered non-living natural history collections, and jointly-curated ancillary collections such as preserved tissues and DNA libraries.
