Wellcome Trust (UK)

The Wellcome Trust is a UK-based organization that funds research to improve human and animal health. The Wellcome Trust supports research conducted outside the UK where research develops international partnerships, or focuses on biomedical or clinical medicine in developing countries.

NIH Change to annual progress reports received on/after 10/1/14

National Institutes of Health (NIH) annual progress reports received on or after October 1, 2014 must include a section to describe how individual development plans (IDPs) are used to identify and promote the career goals of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers associated with the award.

National Center for Accelerated Innovations (NCAI)

The Office of Translation and Innovation will host an information session on the National Center for Accelerated Innovations (NCAI) program, including details on the current RFA, led by Mark Low, Managing Director for the NCAI-Cleveland Clinic and Mark Chance, Vice Dean for Research in the CWRU School of Medicine.

The information session will be held next Monday, January 26 from 12n - 1pm in BRB 932.

All interested investigators are encouraged to attend. If you are coming from outside the School of Medicine, please stop by the security desk on the ground floor of the Biomedical Research Building and they will give you access to the elevators.

Drs. Low and Chance, among others, will be on hand to help answer any questions you have about this innovations program. The NCAI is currently running it's third funding cycle RFA. This regional funding opportunity is a great chance to move your translational research project to the next level.

New Outside Interests Disclosure Form

Case Western Reserve University is committed to ensuring its faculty an open and productive environment in which to conduct teaching and research. The institution's concern with conflict of interests reflects the ever-increasing complexity of our society, our various relations with each other and with outside institutions, along with the heightened national and governmental sensitivity to such matters.

University policy requires that all faculty and other researchers who contribute to scientific development disclose their outside interests at least annually. The 2014 Outside Interests disclosure process will begin the first week of February. The Office of Research Administration has transitioned to Click Sparta to administer the 2014 process. Sparta has had a positive impact on streamlining the pre-award system and by using specialized Sparta Conflict of Interests (COI) software we have created a much more user friendly COI system. Sparta COI will have the look and feel of Sparta which will ease transition to the new software.

Pertinent information that had been part of the Spiderweb disclosure process will not prepopulate the Sparta COI disclosure form, but any data disclosed in Sparta COI will remain to be updated or changed as the need arises.

A number of information sessions have been organized in February and March, and we hope you can join the Office of Research Administration COI staff for an opportunity to learn about the new Sparta COI software for the annual disclosure process. Attendees can stop in for a quick tutorial of the new system, or you can complete your disclosure during the session with assistance from the COI staff.

 
NIH Postpones New Biosketch Format Requirement until May 25, 2015

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced that a new biosketch format will be required for all applications submitted for FY2016 funding, and will be required beginning May 25, 2015. Originally, the requirement was to go into effect beginning January 25, 2015, but in response to input from the research community, the mandatory change in format was postponed.

The NIH has been piloting a planned modification of the biosketch since June 2012. The new format increases the page limit from 4 to 5 pages and increases the number of peer-reviewed publications from 15 to 20. The new format allows investigators to include a link to a complete listing of their publications in SciENcv or My Bibliography.
