Welcome from the Vice President for Research

CWRU researchers are among the most distinguished in the world. We have 16 Nobel Laureates among current and former faculty and alumni, 4 members of the National Academies of Sciences, 7 members of the National Academy of Engineering, and 8 members of the Institute of Medicine. We also partner with artistic and cultural institutions on a broad range of projects that make important scholarly contributions in the humanities and social sciences.

Extraordinary research requires an outstanding infrastructure. Our Office of Research & Technology Management provides support to seek out grant funding, to facilitate industrial sponsorship, and to transfer university technologies to the marketplace. This is a place for people driven to make a difference, and our office exists to help them succeed.

SpartaCOI is now available for 2014 Annual Outside Financial Interests Certification

Sparta COI Disclosure System

It is time for all full-time faculty and non-faculty investigators to complete the annual CWRU Outside Financial Interests Certification Form. CWRU Conflict of Interests Policy requires disclosure at least annually and the deadline for completion of the 2014 form is April 1, 2015.

Community-Based Research Consult Service

The Case Center for Reducing Health Disparities is funded by the National Institutes of Health to offer a variety of services to faculty members, health care providers, student researchers, and community organizations. One of our many services include a Community-Based Research Consult Service to help researchers and organizations develop quality research.

The consult service has expertise in areas including, but not limited to: research project development, IRB application process, grants assistance and funding, survey development and refinement, needs assessment, data collection, program evaluation, best practices, focus group development, recruitment strategies, dissemination of findings, and Spanish Translation.

This session was created for faculty principal investigators who have active Sponsored Projects. Attendees will learn about financial statements that are available to them via Launchpad. We will be discussing key statements which should be reviewed on a monthly basis to ensure financial transactions occur in accordance with university and sponsor policies. Examples of reports that will be reviewed include Income and Expense Statements, Salary Analysis and Status of Funded Projects.

Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN)

The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is pleased to announce that they are now accepting applications for the John Quale Travel Fellowship Program, a special opportunity for early career physicians and scientists interested in bladder cancer research to attend the Tenth Annual BCAN Bladder Cancer Think Tank, which will be held August 6-8, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

NVivo Webinar: Using NVivo as a Research Tool

A complimentary NVivo Webinar: Using NVivo as a Research Tool is being sponsored by the Kelvin Smith Library at Case Western Reserve University. During this webinar, you will see how NVivo software works with different types of data such as interviews, focus groups, videos, surveys and social media platforms.

An overview of the key features of NVivo will be given. You will learn how NVivo supports qualitative and mixed methods research and how to use NVivo for writing robust literature reviews; grant writing and research proposal development; as well as data management and analysis.

Brocher Foundation

The Brocher Foundation, located on the shores of the Geneva Lake, in Hermance (Geneva-Switzerland), is calling for proposals for the 2016 residencies. The residencies last between one and four months. They give researchers the opportunity to work at the Brocher Centre on projects on the ethical, legal and social implications for humankind of recent medical research and new technologies. Every month a dozen of visiting researchers live and concentrate on their research project at the Foundation.

The Brocher Foundation offers to successful applicants a workplace and an accommodation in its premises. Breakfast and dinner are also provided every day. “Junior” visiting researchers can apply for an additional scholarship in order to cover their travel and local expenses in Geneva. To be eligible to this “Additional scholarship for Junior researchers”, the applicant should be a PhD student or should have obtained his PhD degree within a maximum of five years and should not perceive any other income during the time spent at the Foundation.

Deadline for submission is March 1, 2015.
