Welcome from the Vice President for Research

CWRU researchers are among the most distinguished in the world. We have 16 Nobel Laureates among current and former faculty and alumni, 4 members of the National Academies of Sciences, 7 members of the National Academy of Engineering, and 8 members of the Institute of Medicine. We also partner with artistic and cultural institutions on a broad range of projects that make important scholarly contributions in the humanities and social sciences.

Extraordinary research requires an outstanding infrastructure. Our Office of Research & Technology Management provides support to seek out grant funding, to facilitate industrial sponsorship, and to transfer university technologies to the marketplace. Sparta COI Disclosure System

It is time for all full-time faculty and non-faculty investigators to complete the annual CWRU Outside Financial Interests Certification Form. CWRU Conflict of Interests Policy requires disclosure at least annually and the deadline for completion of the 2014 form is April 1, 2015.

NVivo Webinar: Using NVivo as a Research Tool

Student Researchers and COI Disclosures

Student researchers who are listed on human subjects research protocols are required to have an Outside Interest Disclosure form on file with the Office of Research Administration (ORA). To help establish that the design, conduct, and reporting of research will be free from bias resulting from Investigator financial conflict of interests, disclosures are required not only for faculty and staff, but also student researchers.

Retirement Research Foundation

The Retirement Research Foundation is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations for local and national projects designed to improve the quality of life for older Americans.

Grants will be awarded in support of projects that provide direct services, advocacy, and education and training for professionals working with elders, as well as for research that investigates causes of and solutions to significant challenges faced by older adults.

To be eligible for funding, projects must have a local focus in one of the following seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Florida. However, advocacy, training, and research projects of national relevance will be considered from organizations located anywhere in the United States.

In 2015, the foundation will consider proposals on May 1 and August 3. Applicants who want to discuss a project before submitting a full proposal should send a brief Letter of Inquiry to the foundation at least three weeks prior to one of those deadlines.

NIH Postpones New Biosketch Format Requirement until May 25, 2015

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced that a new biosketch format will be required for all applications submitted for FY2016 funding, and will be required beginning May 25, 2015. Originally, the requirement was to go into effect beginning January 25, 2015, but in response to input from the research community, the mandatory change in format was postponed.

The NIH has been piloting a planned modification of the biosketch since June 2012. The new format increases the page limit from 4 to 5 pages and increases the number of peer-reviewed publications from 15 to 20. The new format allows investigators to include a link to a complete listing of their publications in SciENcv or My Bibliography.

CDC: Economic Studies of Immunization Policies and Practices

Funding Opportunity Number: RFA-IP-15-001

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to obtain economic information about vaccines and immunization policies, programs, and practices using economic and decision analyses and other appropriate methods. The results of these economic studies will be used to help inform policy and the development of effective interventions. Three studies will be conducted, including an analysis of the financial, economic, and epidemiologic relationships between vaccine-preventable infectious diseases and chronic diseases in adult populations, and the opportunity costs for immunization of failure to prevent chronic diseases. Study 1 may include, but need not be limited to influenza and pneumococcal diseases and diabetes. Study 2 will focus on an estimation of the costs of norovirus disease. Study three will involve an analysis of issues related to provider reimbursement for adult vaccination services.
